Yes, No Bombs
Feb 27, 2022
Dear Parent,
Master the fine art of saying no by saying yes first.
The word no is a trigger for our children who have an internalized world view that there isn't enough and that everyone is against them. Yet, life requires structure and adult guidelines to help them internalize self-discipline and delayed gratification.
The art is to begin with the yes--before your child gets hit with the no.
Good job asking nicely Sara. We can talk about doing that some other time. Really nice job accepting no, sweetheart. You are being so respectful and loving.
Now change the subject fast before she realizes she has been hit with a no bomb.
The fine art of saying no is learning how important yes is to short-circuiting the human stress cycle.
Love matters,
Ce
