Slow Down and Listen

Dear Parent,
Do you know that listen is an anagram for silent? You have to be silent to listen. When we slow down, we can hear the whispered heart songs of our children.
My son is so sad under all the lying and in the face of my frustration over it. I can remember one night when we sat in the darkened living room and I heard his heart. I might have done that a week prior, but only thought of it after a day of sour lemons, a good hard cry, some loving hugs, and an increase in empathy for him and for myself. We were both doing the best we could. I told him that. He looked relieved. I felt relieved.
The lying will likely always continue, but the frustration is gone. I have the power to change my reaction. That will help my son, little by little, find his courage to live in the light.
Listening is a soothing salve. Spread it around.
