Our Kids Are Managing A Lot and So Are You

Dear Parent,

You’re not failing. You’re carrying the weight of what should never have been yours to carry.

Some days you wonder how much longer you can keep showing up with patience, softness, presence—when what you get in return is rage, rejection, or silence.
You try to reach your child with tenderness, but trauma has taught them to expect pain even from love. So they push you away.
And still, you stay.

You stay even when your nervous system screams. Even when your heart feels like it's being torn apart one disappointed hope at a time.
You stay, even when it’s not pretty, not calm, not sweet.
Even when your voice shakes. Even when your tears feel shameful.

Let’s be clear: this isn't regular parenting.
This is parenting on the frontlines of trauma.
You're being asked to offer co-regulation to a child whose very survival blueprint tells them not to trust you.
You're being asked to be the calm to a storm that’s been raging in them since before they had words.

So if your fuse is short, if your compassion runs dry, if you fantasize about running away or giving up—please know that’s not a character flaw.
That’s blocked care. That’s your nervous system waving a white flag.
And it doesn't mean you don’t love your child. It means you're human.

This path asks more of you than most people can imagine.
It’s okay to rest. To repair. To let go of the fantasy that love alone will be enough to heal what's been broken.
Because healing doesn't come from perfection—it comes from being present, again and again, in small and imperfect ways.

You’re not supposed to do this alone. And you don’t have to. I’m glad you are reading this blog.
