Dear Parents,

When my children were still at home, I can’t remember a day when I woke up asking much of anything different than: Why am I so tired? Why does everything feel so loud? When did I lose track of myself?

How about you?

This week on Unmuted Love, I sat down with Layne Burkett, somatic therapist and founder of Life Balance, for a conversation that felt less like an interview and more like a deep, nourishing breath of fresh air with a good friend. Layne works at the crossroads of body, mind, heart, and breath—supporting parents and others who are overwhelmed, anxious, running on fumes, or quietly falling apart behind the scenes.

Honestly: that’s a lot of us. Our nervous systems are often waving white flags, but we are so “in it” we can’t even see.

When “I’m fine” stops being true, what do you do?

Instead of jumping straight to “fixing” or powering through, Layne invites people to slow down enough to hear what their bodies are trying to say. Her work centers on the idea that healing doesn’t begin in the mind—it begins in the body that’s been bracing, guarding, and overworking for far too long.

She isn’t interested in slapping coping skills on top of exhaustion. She’s helping people return to themselves—safety within. Layne shared a few core practices with me and you can catch some of this body wisdom in this episode

Nothing complicated. Truly. Nothing that requires a yoga retreat or an hour of free time you don’t have. Just accessible, doable practices that soften the system and help you shift out of survival mode and into somatic safety.

Layne’s message is a soft reminder that healing doesn’t happen by pushing harder. It happens by slowing down, listening inward, and reconnecting with the part of you that already knows how to heal.

If you need a moment of grounding, gentleness, or insight, this episode will meet you there.
